An ongoing renovation of a historic 1909 home designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, this project holds a special place in our hearts.
The project began with a reimagining of the unfinished attic—now recreated as an entertaining and media space, allowing this historic home to help support a modern lifestyle. Complete with a golf simulator, putting green, bar, and movie room, it’s the home’s new entertainment hub—ideal for gatherings or quiet family time. Its exposed brick and reclaimed lumber, paired with contemporary elements, make it a surprising juxtaposition to the rest of the otherwise classic home.
Being respectful of the historical importance of this home, Frank Ponterio also redesigned a formal powder room; incorporating a hand-painted wallcovering, lacquered door with nail head trim, and a carved gilt mirror that combine to create a timeless space befitting the home.
Ethereal blue custom cabinets topped with marble set the stage for the client’s dream master closet. Adorned with handmade hardware, custom lighting, and many of Ponterio’s fabrics from his collection with Clarence House, help the space feels as pretty and feminine as it is functional. It’s the perfect partner for the updated primary bathroom which is clad in marble, and an antiqued mirror and other exquisite design details.
“This project is such a joy to work on,” says Ponterio. “It’s nice to be able to get your classicist on once and awhile.”

Anchored by original bookcases and a restored original Nero fireplace, the library accommodates multifaceted, current lifestyles—it can function as a space for work, retreat for the family or center for entertaining. The room is united by sophisticated lines, carefully curated collections and luxurious natural materials like mohair, silk linen, saddle-toned leathers and cashmere, rendering it the ideal place to work, read, gather and relax.
